Government waste work programme

Our company’s core values are in line with the latest initiatives of the New Zealand government, as outlined in the updated Waste Work Programme on 1 July 2023. This programme is a significant move towards achieving a more sustainable and circular economy in our country.

In short, the updated Waste Work Programme of the New Zealand government aims to improve their approach to waste management and reduction.

The Circular Economy Approach

The government’s strategy emphasizes transitioning to a circular economy from a traditional linear economy based on the take-make-dispose model.

1. Keeping resources in use for as long as possible.
2. Extracting maximum value while in use.
3. Recovering and regenerating products at the end of their life.

This sustainable model reduces dependency on finite resources and emphasizes renewable energy sources, aligning with global environmental standards.

Strategic Investments and Legislation

To facilitate the transition, the government has drafted a comprehensive plan that encompasses strategic investments and legislative reforms.

1. Investments: Emphasis is placed on funding initiatives like research and development, innovation, community projects, infrastructure, public information campaigns, and Te ao Māori initiatives.

2. Legislation: The development of new comprehensive waste legislation aims to enhance the management of waste, products, and materials, replacing the Waste Minimisation Act 2008 and the Litter Act 1979.

Our Alignment with Government Strategies

Our company is strongly dedicated to environmental stewardship and fully endorses initiatives that promote sustainable practices. We consider ourselves as having a crucial role in implementing these strategies in a practical manner. By providing top-notch waste collection and recycling services, we are directly contributing to the preservation of the environment.

1. Reducing the overall waste footprint.
2. Enhancing resource recovery and recycling efforts.
3. Supporting community-based waste management initiatives

Future Focused Initiatives

New Zealand’s government has released its first Emissions Reduction Plan that details its strategy for reducing emissions, with a particular focus on addressing organic waste and hydrofluorocarbons. We fully support this goal and are constantly improving our waste management services to minimize emissions and enhance efficiency.

Our Commitment to Sustainable Practices

We are dedicated to surpassing mere compliance with government regulations and integrating sustainable practices into our services. Our goal is to become a pioneer in eco-friendly services and continually enhance them. We strongly believe that by collaborating with our clients and the community, we can make a significant contribution towards creating a greener and more sustainable future for New Zealand.
